Emergency Treatment in American Canyon
Dental emergencies typically result in a root canal or extraction. We are well versed and experienced in performing both those procedures. Molar root canals are a routine procedure that we conduct here at Canyon West Dental.
What is Considered to be a Dental Emergency?
If you have a condition with your teeth, gums, or tongue that is extremely painful or potentially life-threatening, it is considered a dental emergency. If a dental emergency is ignored, it can cause infection to spread in the neck and face area and consequently require going to the ER.
The extreme pain that you are experiencing could be because of an infection in the gums or a cavity that has reached the nerve of the tooth. The infection has probably flared up creating a pocket of pus. Pus buildup can cause fever, swelling tooth-sensitivity accompanied by acute pain. This can be life-threatening and needs immediate care.
If there was an injury to your mouth and your tooth fell out, it can be re-implanted within an hour of the incident. Pick the tooth by the crown or the chewing surface and try to reinsert it in the socket if possible. Be careful not to touch the root. If reinsertion is not possible, place it in a container with milk to keep it moist and bring it to us.
A fractured tooth is a serious issue. Damage has happened not only to the outside but also to the inside of the tooth. The nerve center of the tooth may have also been exposed. You may need a root canal if the tooth pulp is damaged.
If you have a dental problem without immediate pain or symptoms, we can speak with you over the phone to determine if it’s a dental emergency. If you doubt the urgency of the problem, just give us a call and we can determine that over the phone.
